The Sugar loag Mountain became one of the symbols of Brazil, beginning with the arrival of the Portuguese in 1500. Navigators explored the Brazilian coast from North to South and recorded the various geographical accidents in order to make the position of strategic points easier to indetify. The sugar Loaf is the acknowledged picture postcard for Brazil and for Rio de Janeiro, and has been the setting for the adventures of James Bond in the film Moonracker, in 1979, as well as for the intrepid German Brothers, whose names have been lost in time, who drove a motor bike between the urca Hill and the Sugar Loaf, in 1967. This latter feat was followed by an incredible crossing by the tightrope walker steven McPeak, 1977, who completed the trajectory using as a counterbalance a nine-metre-long metal pole.
